John Eastman Meader, son of Levi Meader (1813-1885) [0156] and Amanda Eastman (1817-1888), was born August 29, 1850 in Rochester, NH and died August 5, 1909. He attended public schools and Moses Brown School in Providence. He started in the woolen mills at Gonic, rose through the ranks and was eventually superintendent of the Gonic Mills. He was a member of the Society of Friends and was elected to the State legislature in 1888 and 1897. He married Clara E. Varney, born in Rochester August 30, 1855 the daughter of John W. Varney and Harriet H. Foss, on June 16, 1876. She died June 23, 1933.
